We are thrilled to announce the launch of Alchemy's newest in-house pharmacy, in partnership with Someone Cares of Atlanta! This launch represents a significant step forward in providing comprehensive, compassionate healthcare in the Atlanta metro area, with a particular focus on supporting individuals affected by HIV/AIDs.

Over 30 years ago, Founder and CEO Ronnie Bass established Someone Cares to address the lack of healthcare services tailored to the needs of Black MSM in Atlanta. Though the clinic’s reach has grown significantly in the intervening years, its commitment to serving the underserved remains steadfast. Today, 60% of their patients are indigent or homeless and most lack health insurance.

Recognizing the challenge many of his patients faced getting their prescriptions and staying adherent on their medications, Ronnie envisioned Someone Cares as a “one-stop-shop” where patients could receive comprehensive care under one roof. Someone Cares partnered with Alchemy to bring this vision to life by building and operating an in-house pharmacy directly within the clinic.

Alchemy has overseen every aspect of bringing the pharmacy to life – from initial licensing and setup, pharmacist hiring and training, to on-going operations and growth efforts. “Alchemy has been a blessing,” Bass emphasized. “They took the burden off us by handling everything—from paperwork to recruiting a board-certified pharmacist—and they’ve been with us every step of the way. Their flexibility and commitment to our mission have been invaluable.”

Adolphus Liburd, COO and CFO of Someone Cares, added, “Alchemy’s financial modeling showed us how to create long-term sustainability while keeping patient care as the top priority. Their partnership has been instrumental in ensuring we can focus on our mission rather than logistics.”

In the first two months since launch, Someone Cares’ in-house pharmacy has already achieved important financial and operational milestones:

  • Launch Timeline: First claim only 2 weeks after the pharmacy received DEA permit.
  • Cash Flow Positive: Achieved in under 1 month of operations.
  • Gross Profit Positive: Reached within 2 weeks.
  • Gross Margin: Maintaining around 44%.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Established with Cobb Recovery Center and CrossRoads Atlanta, enhancing service offerings and community impact.

Critically, the 340B revenue generated by the pharmacy enables Someone Cares to continue to offer healthcare services free of charge to its un- and under-insured patients, provide medications at a reduced cost, and expand community engagement efforts to alleviate barriers to care.

As Mr. Bass highlighted, “This one-stop-shop model gives our patients their time back. They don’t have to worry about finding a pharmacy or facing stigma elsewhere. Everything they need is here, in a safe and welcoming environment.”

Join us in celebrating this milestone and supporting the ongoing work of Someone Cares Pharmacy!

“Our patients love it. They’re raving about how they can see their provider and pick up their medication all in one place. It’s alleviating so many challenges for them, especially for those who don’t have transportation.
