In this release, we’ll cover some of the basic building blocks of our digital product with patient messaging and printing a shipping label. Surprisingly, over the past 10 years I’ve looked at just about every off-the-shelf Pharmacy Management System (PMS) in the market, and none of them handle patient messaging or mail order very well. In fact, most pharmacy management systems don’t offer any functionality in these two critical areas, which makes a great place for the Alchemy Digital Product to step in.

Release #2 Highlights =>

  • Automated SMS/Text Messaging
  • 2-way SMS/Text Messaging
  • Print a Shipping Label

Patient Messaging

The ability to message a patient seamlessly (via standard SMS/text messages) would seem like a table stakes feature across pharmacy management systems in 2023. But sadly, that is not the current state.

Automated Messaging

We use automated system generated messages for a variety of prescription related triggers. A majority of patients interact with an Alchemy powered pharmacy with very little to no manual intervention needed when it comes to patient communications.

We support automated messages for when medications are ready for patients, by offering pickup, mail and drop-off options. We collect shipping address confirmation and send shipping tracking URLs via automated messages as well. Every clinic has the ability to customize and configure the (1) types of automated messages they want to provide patients (2) the actual template to reflect the tone, brand, voice of the clinic.

2-Way Patient Messaging

The Alchemy Digital Product (no surprise) also supports manual 2-way text messages between the pharmacy team and the patient. There are many reasons when a pharmacy team member may need to communicate directly with the patient and our product allows for frictionless messaging via text message to a patient’s phone. Pharmacy users can manage several SMS/text conversations within the Inbox and also see all the conversation history with the patient (automated and manual messages) in chronological order and overlaid with pertinent prescription status events.

Print a Shipping Label

This is a table stakes feature that we introduced into our digital product. The number one reason a patient will transfer their prescription to a nearby retail pharmacy location is because they don’t want to drive back to the clinic to pick up their refill (and because another nearby pharmacy exists that is more conveniently located). In-house pharmacies must serve patients where they are, and the best way to do this is by enabling a compliant, robust mail order delivery program.

Our mail order features enable an in-house pharmacy to select different carriers and shipping speeds, request signatures on delivery (for controlled substances or expensive medications), and print a shipping label directly from the patient profile page. Patients are notified throughout the process and receive a URL link to track their mail order delivery.
